Hi Peter! I read your story with interest, as I’m an ex developer myself. I’m happy you took the opportunity to make good use of your time and pursue your goal.

I think your example is the one that should be more commonly applied. I mean, you took the time to learn and you made efforts not to speed things up. It’s very important with coding, because in the beginning there’s a steep learning curve in this field. Letting yourself being overwhelmed at this stage should never be encouraged, because it’s already a big piece of knowledge to grasp.

I’m also happy that you see that improving anything requires measuring it first. After all, how can you tell if you’re devlivering consistent results if you’re not backed by any data? I’m very interested in this approach myself.

Out of curiosity, what kinds of data do you collect on your work? Just GitHub commits, or something else too?
